Modernizing technology for a growing regional nonprofit
Nonprofit, anonymized pending client approval
A regional nonprofit outgrew its ad hoc technology setup and needed a governed, secure Microsoft 365 environment to support a growing, partly remote staff.
The challenge
The organization had accumulated technology decisions one purchase at a time over several years. Staff used a mix of personal and shared accounts, device management was inconsistent, and leadership had no clear picture of where sensitive donor and client data actually lived.
Context
Staff had grown from a handful of employees to a distributed team, but the technology environment hadn't kept pace. Leadership wanted a plan before the next round of grant funding required a stronger data-handling story.
Our approach
We began with a technology assessment covering identity management, device policy, licensing, and data governance, then facilitated a working session with leadership to prioritize findings against budget and staff capacity.
The solution
A phased Microsoft 365 governance rollout: consolidated identity management, a device management policy through Intune, multifactor authentication across all accounts, and a documented data-handling policy the board could point to in funder conversations.
Outcome
- Centralized, governed identity and device management across the organization
- A documented data-handling policy the organization could reference in grant applications
- A clearer, board-visible view of technology risk and ongoing priorities
